FAQ

Sahm Al-Nour is an endowment share of US$120 or their equivalent of used currencies. It is invested in various projects having profitable revenues through specialized licensed banks and companies. These banks and companies preserve the value of the endowment share and ensure a continuous profit that will be allotted to printing and distributing one copy of the Qur’an for each share; annually until the Day of Reckoning.

Sahm Al-Nour is an international non-governmental organization that cares about serving the Noble Qur’an. It collects the greatest possible number of endowment shares and invests them according to low-risk investment mechanisms and programs. These mechanisms and programs insure printing and copying the Noble Qur’an in various forms and distributing it throughout the world: one copy of the Qur’an for each endowment share; for a lifetime.

Vision of Project: enabling humanity to benefit from the Noble Qur’an.

At Sahm Al-Nour, we are committed to exerting great effort, making use of technology, and employing qualified personnel to pursue the goals of our work. In this way, we work with the determination of those who are sure of success and are aware of the beneficial nature of this project, the universality of its mission, and the great responsibility implied, which is unique in its idea, developments, and outcomes. We aim at enabling everyone in the world, regardless of language or belief, to have a copy of the Noble Qur'an or a translation of its meanings. This is to be done in a way that suits them all, fulfils their needs, and attains the utmost benefit possible. As a consequence, good shall prevail and light shall take root in the hearts of those who seek to make good use of the Noble Qur'an.

This project can present a civilizational model for Islamic projects, and a model for all charity organizations and authorities. The civilzational image of this project is evident in the following aspects:
1. Universal Participation: Sahm Al-Nour Trust project aims at giving Muslims all over the world the opportunity to participate and contribute in it, unlike many other charity projects whose range does not extend beyond the borders of their country or region. The extensive contribution of the Muslim public in every place is an image full of hope for the unity of this nation, their gathering to accomplish major goals, and their readiness to utilize all material potentials to serve, publish, and circulate the Noble Qur’an.
2. Use of International Standards: A project adopted by the nation, and aiming at serving humanity should not work in accordance with traditional standards, or be below a standard that suits its magnitude and mission. Thus, the standard set by Sahm Al-Nour for employing human resources are no less than those applied by the largest international organizations and corporations. This also applies to the facilities, services and modern appliances that are being used to serve the Noble Qur’an.
3. Receiving help and support from several prominent figures: The project enjoys the support of many prominent figures, leaders, scholars and renowned personalities known for their vast knowledge, merit, and moderation, in addition to their great contributions in various aspects of Muslims’ lives, such as charitable, social, scientific, legal and political fields.
4. Professionalism and Specialization: This is achieved through contracts made with several specialized corporations that have a record of many accomplishments in their fields.

We aspire to distribute copies of the Noble Qur'an and translations of its meanings to the greatest possible number of people who are in need of them, whether Muslims or non-Muslims, throughout the world.

Endowment (Waqf) is a Prophetic tradition which Islam used before all modern nations. It means keeping the original amount of money and giving away profits in the cause of Almighty Allah. This provides opportunities for continuous investment of financial resources that fund charitable and humanitarian work and projects that are developed to cover various aspects of life such as society, health, science, and media for the longest possible period of time. Thus, the endowment system has made a great contribution in spreading education, supporting Da`wah (introducing Islam to others), caring for the needy, and providing many services throughout the long history of Islam. The endowment system even went beyond that in humanitarian fields such as animal care and providing various humanitarian services for people in need.

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There are seven (deeds) whose reward continues for their doer while he is in his grave after his death, and (this applies to) whoever teaches knowledge, runs a river, digs a well, plants a date palm, builds a mosque, bequeaths a copy of the Qur’an, or leaves a child who asks for his parents’ forgiveness after their death.” (Sahih Al-Jami`, hadith no. 3596)

It is well-known that taking care of the Noble Qur’an is regarded as one of the most honorable deeds, because of the greatness of the Qur’an. Moreover, a Muslim’s relationship with the Noble Qur’an includes him in the best people of this nation, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The best among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” Then, what about the reward for the permanent endowment of the Qur’an?

There were many alternative names for this project. Companies specialized in research, marketing, and advertising, all suggested names along with those who were participating and working in this project. Eventually, the name “Sahm Al-Nour” was agreed upon.

The same applies to the logo. It was chosen from among several designs made by specialists and designers. The opinions of a cross-section of the public were examined to help choose the final design.

The word ‘Sahm’ (i.e. share) was chosen because the aim of the project is to collect endowment shares.

The word ‘Al-Nour’ (the light) was chosen because the Noble Qur’an is described as being a light in several verses. For example, we read in the Qur'an what means:

- "But We have made it (the Qur’an) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our servants We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (of Allah)." (Ash-Shura 42: 52)

- "O mankind! Verily, there has come to you a convincing proof (Prophet Muhammad) from your Lord, and We sent down to you a manifest light (this Qur’an)." (An-Nisaa' 4: 174)

- "Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a plain Book (this Qur’an)" (Al-Ma'idah 5: 15)

1.Distributing the largest possible number of the Qur’an to all those in need of it; whether Muslims or non-Muslims, for a lifetime.

2. Contributing to the revival of the Islamic tradition of endowment (Waqf).

3. Presenting a balanced image of Islamic institutionalized charity work.

1.Collecting the largest possible number of Al-Nour endowment shares.

2.Contributing to the printing of the Qur’an and translating its meanings.

3.Fulfilling the provision made by the person who shared in the endowment through a creative investment mechanism.

4. Providing opportunities to the greatest possible number of Muslims to contribute to the service of the Noble Qur’an.

5.Establishing a special capacity to administer Islamic charity projects, especially endowments and other related projects.

6.Creating a vast network of relations with charity and Qur’an institutions throughout the world.

7.Utilizing the best scientific, practical, and modern means of serving the Noble Qur’an

The project depends on decentralization. Most of the work aspects in this project are outsourced to specialized companies with vast experience in their specific fields. Each of them performs its specialized task for the project. The work team of the project’s general management undertakes supervision, follow-up, and coordination with these companies. In addition, the team is also entrusted with the task of research and development as it maps out general basic plans and strategies through cooperation with the board of supervisors.

There is no doubt that the number of Muslims in the world is not proportional to the number of copies of the Qur’an being produced at present. In addition, it is well-known that the default age of a copy of the Qur’an does not exceed five years. This means that no matter how many copies of the Qur’an are made available; there will always be a pressing need to print more in many Arab and Islamic countries, and even among Muslim minorities around the world.

There is also a continuous need to print the Qur’an in its various recitations, as well as different translations of its meanings, audio recordings, and copies made for people with special needs (like the Qur’an in Braille).

What is new about this project is that it seeks to facilitate continuous availability of copies of the Qur’an for anyone who needs one; not just now or even through the next hundred years, but until the Last Hour, which is a completely new concept.

Some people may say that the Muslim Ummah (nation) does not need copies of the Qur’an as much as it needs care for orphans, providing for the poor, building mosques, digging wells, and so on. There is a list of priorities that never ends. Therefore, what is the degree of importance of this project?

First, we maintain that each aspect of charitable work is a priority according to the group that benefits from it, and if it weren’t for the existence of these needy people, there would not have been any necessity for charitable work. However, the reason for putting this project on top of the priorities concerned with charitable work is not just because it fulfills the need of the people who benefit from the copies of the Qur’an, but because it is a unique integrated model of charitable work.

If Almighty Allah intended for this project to succeed, it would be an example to be followed by all other sectors of charitable work. There may be a project that serves building and reconstructing mosques, another for digging and fixing wells, and a third for taking care of orphans all for a lifetime.

In this way, the Muslim Ummah can depend on itself as regards addressing all its charitable, social and relief efforts, just as it did previously during its early years. Thus, the importance of this project lies in it being a basis on which all forms of charity work may be built in the future.

By increasing the number of bodies that represent the project, regional offices will be constructed to supervise close or neighboring groups of these authorities and societies that represent the project. The goals of the project do not stop at a certain country or region; rather, we seek to extend representation to every country around the world.

By nature and definition, endowment implies permanence as long as the conditions of survival, renewal, and care are fulfilled. Some of the most important aspects of these conditions are the following:
The legal aspect: The project is legally registered as a charity endowment which includes the mechanisms of continuity as regards structure and successive personnel throughout the generations to come. At the same time, the project has laid down a number of rules and internal regulations to organize the work and define authority as regards all boards and management structures.
The financial aspect: The task of finance management was outsourced to a trusted specialized financial company to insure the preservation of the original funds and to make profit rates that fulfill the condition made by the donors, along with the existence of a reserve fund for any price changes, increase in financial inflation rates, or any suchlike conditions.
This company is subject to continuous supervision by the board of supervisors to ensure it fulfills its duties in a beneficial manner for the project.

The operational managerial aspect: The project has chosen distinguished and highly competent human resources, in addition to its dependence on contracting specialized companies. This provides distinguished performance, good service, and the ability to continue.

1. Responsibility: Our awareness of the concept of responsibility obliges us to have the highest sense of accountability in the performance of our tasks. We shall continue to work with patience, face challenges with strong will, and supervise ourselves and our work. Our project is that of a whole nation, and our companion on this road is the Noble Qur’an. According to our team, responsibility means the degree of commitment we have and out understanding that the world needs the Noble Qur’an and its light.

2. Integrity: We shall holdfast to our values, call people to respect them, and encourage them to practice them in thought and deed. We also shall adhere to our principles to accomplish our goals in accordance with noble Islamic morals and regulations as well as human standards and ethical behavior.

3. Insistence on success: We insist on achieving success, as if we are seeing it. We do so because we are working to serve the Noble Qur’an and providing it for all those who need it. Our trust is in Almighty Allah, and then in ourselves, our ideas, our goals, our professionalism, and our partners. This trust will enable us to acquire the skill of dealing with challenges, and have confidence to overcome difficulties.

4. Proficiency: We take from the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) “Verily, Allah likes for each of you to perfect his work,” an entire system of management and leadership. Thus, we perform our jobs with the eye of a leader, and the hand of a professional, following the best standards to build this new model in charity work.

5. Creativity: We possess imagination, tolerant thinking and the ability to make good choices, which make us capable of continuous development, inspire us with creativity and success in accomplishing all that is in the interest of the beneficiaries of Sahm Al-Nour Project.

6. Partnership: We are all partners; from the happiness of the person benefiting from the copy of the Noble Qur’an to the excellence and reward of the founder. We are all partners; from the employee and the worker to the donor and the contributor. We are all partners; from the societies representing the project and the cooperative contracting companies to the scholars and leaders. Partnership means our respect for the system of relations that binds all those people. Partnership means our respect for other opinions, our comprehension of new ideas, and our hearty reception to cooperate with everyone to make the best common decision.

7. Transparency: We practice transparency to show how much we are committed to our goals. To us, transparency is a mirror that reflects the level of our credibility in front of our partners. We enable everyone from knowing different information about the aspects of the project, its operation mechanisms, reports of accomplishments, and financial budgets.
